SPECIFICS:
General Overview
We created a business software application to help individuals find and track job prospects. The application has several key areas, most of which have two screens for help and tutorials. These are "Getting Started" and the base help of a tree showing open documents relative to that task (i.e. integrated browser windows or job prospects). Each of these screens has two areas. One area is a detailed write-up describing how to function and get started. The other is an animated graphic that describes in pictures what the text shows.
The purpose of the animated graphic is that people do not read and do not comply with written text. Because people do not read, having some sort of dynamic graphic showing them what to do becomes all the more important. That is where this flash presentation comes in.
Background History
The original thought was to use an animated graphic (GIF), but the file size and quality (too grainy) made this option not realistic for a professional looking application. There are eight different presentations in total. My graphic artist developed the first one, but as you can see from the link below, the quality as an animated GIF is not very good. That is why she suggested going an Adobe Flash route saying that that would be ideally what we need. That brought us to the job posting.
Existing Animated GIF
Creation of the Existing Aminated GIF
We do NOT want and nor have ever asked for the existing animated GIF to be converted to a Flash. We have the animated GIF that we can use. We care about presentation and not about internal plumbing. The ONLY reason for even going Flash is because my graphic artist recommended that approach after we complained about the file size and graininess of the resultant animated GIF. We can understand her reasoning for thereby recommending an Adobe Flash solution rather than an animated GIF solution.
In the download section at the top, you will find two Microsoft Word documents. That along with the application and the screenshots that we provided are what my graphic artist had to work with in the production of the existing image for the "My Jobs - Getting Started" area graphic.
We provided the screenshots as she did not want to do that herself for whatever reason. These screenshots are available or preferably please take your own screenshots. The purpose of this tutorial graphic is to train the end user how to use the application. What better way to do that then for YOU to learn how to use the application and do your own screenshots. Using "Alt+PrnScrn" and pasting into Microsoft Paint and saving as a JPG is not that difficult a task. That is literally all that we did.
We also gave the direction that the animated graphic should not show any specific job in detail for various legal reasons.
ButterflyVista and JobFish
ButterflyVista is a small upstart non-funded company. We created the product in my hope to help people solve one of the most important aspects of their lives, namely finding a job. Everyone should be entitled to a job who is able to and wants to work. The idea behind JobFish is to help those who do not have personal friends who will give them a job, but rather to help use the world the way that it is to maximize their search for the job that they want. JobFish is a passion of ours.
Your Task
The artist who we will contract has the same information that my graphic artist had to do the animated graphic. She actually had less, as there was no animated GIF at the time. The links are up on top. You can analyze them to your heart content. Just because she chose various zoom actions and slides does not mean that is what you should do.
Our recommendation is to download the application and go to the various area help screens (My Workspace, My Jobs, and My Browser Windows). The latter two each have two: Getting Started and the base of the tree (that is not the top but from your perspective at the bottom if you open up no browser windows or jobs). Read what we wrote. If you read what we wrote, then you will know what the graphic should show. The graphic merely shows the exact same thing as the text. Remember people do not read and do not want to read.
