If I have my resume and cover letter ready in Word, what does JobFish do with each of those?
You can use the Presentation Package wizard to store customized versions of your cover letter and resume. You may have one set that targets one type of job, but another that targets a different type of job. You can then attach these records to a job prospect/record.

How does JobFish find and extract jobs posted on the web? Do I have to type in keywords?
The current version of JobFish, you visit a website, say Dice.com. You type in whatever keywords that you want along with any other information. I usually use the “Advanced Search” page as that allows you to type in area codes and other information. Once you hit the “Search” button, you wind up with a job prospect list. If you click on the link to view the details of a specific job that is when you can use the “Import Job” button within the integrated browser to capture the job details. The “Job Boards Step-By-Step” page on the website gives you a pictorial description of the process.

How does it work with Outlook?
JobFish allows you import your existing friend and recruiter contacts directly into JobFish. Simply use the wizard within JobFish and you’ll see what I’m talking about. You can even drag and drop contact cards, but I wouldn’t recommend that. The wizard is easier and more complete. BTW, the wizard allows you to import from a CSV file too.

When a recruiter or hiring manager calls, how does JobFish know who is calling?
When a recruiter or hiring manager calls, they mention there name and company. You would then go to the recruiter list, hiring company list, or job list depending on what’s appropriate and then click on the “Job List” for that particular recruiter and within seconds you will see the job record that this contact is talking about. You can with a click log this interaction and be prepared to really discuss this position, write down notes, and schedule an interview. Knowing the details of a job that you applied for and all other facts associated with this job prospect puts you at a definite advantage. It’s not possible to keep the volumes of information on hand, when you are talking about many job prospects.

The Online Job Posting Search Interface gives too many results
There are a few things that you can do to limit results. First is that you can specify more keywords. The second is that you can download job postings from only one board rather than the default, which is all boards. The third thing that you can do is to limit the number of job postings from each board. You can do any of these items or all.

I renewed the licenses for the modules, but the Read Registration File command does not like the file.
When you renew the module license, you must use the exact same name to register the renewal as you did for the product. You can find out what name you used from the Help About Box dialog. Module licenses are an add-on to the existing registration, so if you specify a different registration name than what you originally used, you will receive an "expired" notification, which means that JobFish could not find any registration. In this case, contact ButterflyVista to issue you a new license file with the correct name.

Can JobFish 2004 and JobFish 2008 be on the same machine?
2. JobFish 2008 and JobFish 2004 are incompatible together and cannot be on the same machine at the same time. Furthermore, once you upgrade your database to JobFish 2008, you cannot downgrade, so to speak. There will be no more changes made to JobFish 2004. Having both versions installed on the same machine will yield to inoperability and functionality loss.
